Workshop description
Get more from your evaluation by learning how to involve your service users!
Many organisations are experienced at involving their service users in different aspects of their work (e.g. governance or project planning). However, not all organisations have experience of involving people in evaluation, beyond seeking their feedback on the services they’ve received. There can be real value in doing so, both for your organisation and its service users.
Involving service users in your evaluation can help you gain a broader perspective, write stronger funding applications, contribute to policy with more authority, and improve the quality of your services and the design of future services. It can also help your service users to feel more included, have greater influence, increase their self-confidence, learn new skills and have opportunities for peer support!
This workshop will help you to think about…
- Why you might want to involve service users in evaluation (beyond seeking their feedback)
- What the barriers may be
- How you could involve people more

For an example of an organisation successfully involving people in evaluation, see our ARC evaluation story which demonstrates that it is possible to directly engage service users in setting and measuring outcomes. Also, check out our workbook: Why bother involving people in evaluation?
Who is this event for?
Staff or volunteers from organisations that work directly with service users. Pre-existing knowledge of evaluation would be helpful.
Important note:
If you are looking for full training in the principles and practices of evaluation, the Let’s Evaluate! programme may be more suitable.
Joining Information:
We are running this workshop using Zoom. We’ll email in advance with a link, password and all the materials you will need for the workshop. For more information, please read our Participant guide for using Zoom.

For an engaging learning environment, we expect all attendees to actively participate in our workshops and to commit their full attention to the whole session. Please read our digital etiquette and best practice for online events.
About our workshops:
We are accessible. We use plain English. We work in a way that meets the different needs and abilities of people and organisations. We ask you if you have any access needs when we work with you and ensure that, as far as possible, we meet them. Please ask us if you want to see our equalities policy.
