These guidelines were developed as part of a Joseph Rowntree Foundation Programme to help 20 community and voluntary organisations to evaluate their work.
It provides an introduction to what evaluation is, why you should do it and a set of key principles.
The booklet describes five steps of an evaluation: review the situation; gather evidence; analyse the evidence; make use of what you find out; share you findings with others.
A menu of information gathering methods is presented. A useful table for reviewing your project, complete with example, and a further table for planning the evaluation are also included.
